MSc Scholarship  Program Bonn and Cologne

The Scholarship Program is a joint program of the Universities of Bonn and Cologne. BCGS Scholarship Program students are entitled to a monthly stipend, the lecture coursework is identical to the regular MSc program.
Applications open at the beginning of November and close December 1, midnight CET, for intake in the winter semester of the following year.
Summer semester starts for scholarship holders are not possible.
All applications will be evaluated by a committee formed by professors of both universites.
Applicants can note which university they wish to study at during the application.

Application materials

All information on neccessary documents and language certificates.

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • One-page essay indicating your motivation for joining the program (in German or English)
  • Certified copies of each university degree and/or a statement about degrees you plan to complete before joining the BCGS
  • Certified copy of your transcript of records
  • Certified copy of the school leaving certificate (or an equivalent degree of qualification for access to universities) In some coutries this is also called 'High-School Diploma and it enabled you to move on to higher education facilities/University.
  • Proof of English language proficiency: TOEFL (80 points, internet-based) or equivalent, e.g. IELTS (score 6.5), or an official document stating the language of instruction issued by the university of the candidate. (German applicants: a certificate about English proficiency issued by your thesis advisor.)
  • Two letters of recommendation (German applicants: minimum one).
    Students who studied at Bonn or Cologne University do not need to send certified copies.

Admissions Academy

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to our virtual Admissions Academy.

During one whole week in early spring, candidates will be interviewed for the BCGS Scholarship Program.

Succesful candidates will be informed two weeks after the Admissions Academy week has concluded.

Shortlisted candidates who will not receive a scholarship might be admitted to our regular MSc courses. They will be informed within four weeks after the academy has concluded.
